"Digital Portfolio is all about Archival and Curation of works produced by Students in Classroom Environment"
Finally on 3rd May 2021 we (Semester 4 Students of Department of English, MKBU) completed their Digital_Portfolio_Demonstration_Event.
It is a 10_year_long_history of our Department that every student who enrolled for their Masters in English Department is guided to have their own website at the end of their master degree. To see the Digital Portfolios of last ten year Students you can take a visit through this website. (https://sites.google.com/site/projectblendedlearning2012/)
Every Year our Department organizes one day Digital Portfolio Demonstration of students in the Physical Classroom where large gatherings happen in a classroom wherein Students sit with their laptops in Circular Benches. But due to Covid Stuck environment our Department organized this year's Digital_Portfolio_Demonstration_in_a_New_Normal_way where Students are presenting their Digital Portfolios in Virtual_Mode where Covid_Appropriate_Behaviour can be maintained.
Students of our Department are encouraged to have their own blogger, Own SlideShare account and Own YouTube Channel. From the beginning our Professor put more emphasis on the statement that Don't_be_only_Downloaders_Be_uploaders_as_well and this digital portfolio is a collection or documentation of all the academic activities which are done by students with the help of some ICT tools throughout the last two years in their masters.
Why is Digital Portfolio Helpful?
"Education must help students in internalize the core subject as well as vital digital literacy skills such as creating their own digital web presence and learning to effectively and purposefully share their learning with the world."
(Holly Clark)
Nowadays Digital Portfolio is considered as an integral part of Academia or the Learning Process.
Students used to do a lot many things during their School Days, and they submit their work to their teachers. But at the end Students don't have anything to show about their academic activities. But Digital Portfolio helps students to keep the records of their produced work. So, Here are some of the benefits of Digital Portfolio..
- Digital Portfolio help students to make storage_of_their_work
- With the use of Digital Portfolio it will become easier to find Student's work
- With the help of Digital Portfolio Students can reflect on their learning over time (For example our Department Students are asked to write something about What Literature means to you, Which is your Favourite Text etc... on the day of their admission. And At the end When they complete their Masters they are again asked to reflect upon What is Literature means to them after completing their masters)
- Digital Portfolio helps students to share_their_learning_with_world
- Helps students to store their academic activities which are not possible with non digital formats
- Digital Portfolio also helps to create_their_own_space, create a Sense of personal ownership for their academic activities.
Now Coming down to my personal experience of Creating My own digital portfolio. Well..The process of preparing a Portfolio is not easy at all. It has taken two long years to make my digital portfolio attractive and still I will have to keep it updated over the period of time. The process of making a portfolio is long and complex at the same time. And a successful Portfolio may develop over the many years.
Our Professor Dilip Barad sir has a well #pre-planned_strategy to integrate Technology in Literary Learning. So, At the end Students have some innovative and Creative things to put in their Digital Portfolios.
👉 Students are assigned certain works like Thinking_Activity at the end of every unit, which helps them to enhance their Critical_Thinking. All Thinking Activities of Students are supposed to publish in the form of Blogger.
👉 Students are also given Open_Online_Book_test after the completion of every unit, which encourages students not only to find answers but to explore more outside questions in order to increase their knowledge and Thinking Process. Tests are designed with some tricky and Critical questions which demand more googling and more reading. At the end Students are requested to put the Charts_of_their_Quiz Performances in Digital Portfolios.
👉At the end of Every Semester students are given a task to prepare #Presentation, give their presentation in front of their colleagues and teacher which will be recorded in the form of Video, process followed by Teacher's_Evaluation_Peer_Evaluation_Self Evaluation of Presentation. At the end all presentations of students are uploaded by students in their #SlideShare account and Videos_of_Presentation are also to be uploaded into their YouTube Channels. Total Freedom is given to Students in choosing their topics for Presentation where they can showcase their Critical Abilities.
👉 Students are assigned to various Activities like Sunday_Reading Tasks which helps Students to develop a #sense_of_contemporaneity along with reflecting on some ongoing Scenario.
👉 #Group_Activities are also assigned to develop Communication Skills and Teamwork Skills in Students.
👉Apart from these Various Group Discussion, Webquest_Activity, Guest_Lectures are also organised to develop multiple perspectives in students.
So, These are some of the Activities Which students are supposed to perform throughout these two years. And record of this all activities will be included in Digital Portfolios.
Digital Portfolios of students is more than showcase and showoff, It is all about Understanding_the_process_of_the_end_product. Students are time and again encouraged to reflect on their own learning. And this Digital Portfolio is a collection of All the activities and reflection of Students experience of going through the learning process.
This year because of Covid 19 we aren't able to organise it physically, though a very good pre-planning of Virtual Digital Portfolio Demonstration is done by Dr Dilip Barad Sir.
Three Different Sessions are organised and carry out Digital Portfolio Demonstration in Virtual mode.
#Session_1: Students are divided into 5 different groups of 5 people joining through 5 different Google Meet links. Wherein Semester 2 students are requested to visit every group one by one and ask Semester 4 Students to display their Digital Portfolio.
#Session_2: Here Teacher is giving a presentation on Digital Portfolio Demonstration project, and also Students are also provided with some basic information regarding Digital Portfolio and its importance in the era of Technology. Ten Parameters on which Students Digital Portfolio will be analysed are also introduced in this session. (https://youtu.be/-Wl_NYanw1o - Link of Live YouTube video)
Session 3 : In the third and Final Session teacher is asking some of the students to display their Digital Portfolios in Live sessions. (https://youtu.be/FqjJF_lPuGU)
And the day ended by working on Sheet wherein Students are supposed to put one best Abject, Adverb, use of sentence connectors and Metaphor given to Literature in their write ups. Ratings of their Blogger, SlideShare and Digital Portfolio are also included in the sheet.
So, This is a well organised Digital Portfolio Demonstration event completed Successfully. All students displayed their unique abilities in preparing their Digital Portfolios and came up with some new innovative and unique ideas.
The most interesting Part of all students Digital Portfolio is about everyone's write up on What_is_Literature, Metaphor_given_to_Literature and How_Literature_Shaped_Me with the comparison with their earlier write up which is written when we have taken admission in our Department.
Though this Digital Portfolio Demonstration is on Online Mode so many students face some issues of Network Connectivity and are not able to display their Digital Portfolios.
So, Overall it was a wonderful experience from the beginning to create our own website_Archive_Curate_Organise_Classify_and_Reclassify our activities of the last two years on one platform. And finally put it live for public viewing. This will give a #sense_of_ownership to every Student of their academic activities, who have their own websites from now.
So, To conclude I would like to pass my Sincere gratitude towards @Dr Dilip Barad Sir for providing such an opportunity, guidance, platform where Students have their own website after completing their masters.
