Two Fantastic Duo of the Romantic Age

Hello Friends, welcome to my blog....

To explore our critical thinking we have given a new task with some new experiments by Prof. Vaidehi Ma'am. The task is to think about that if Marry Shelly and Jane Austen met together then what was the conversation between them. So we have tried here to do the given task. Conversation may be like this.......

Jane : Hii….! MARRY

Mary : Hello! How are you?

Jane : I am absolutely fine! What about you? Anything new?

Mary : I am okk! I am working on Gothic Fiction, which is titled as Frankenstein.

What about you, are you busy with any new novel or not?

Jane : No, I am not currently Writing any work but my five best known novels are…. Pride and Prejudice, Sense and sensibility, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, Emma.I would like to talk on my most charming novel Pride and Prejudice which I have completed in 1797. But as you know that it was not easy for a woman to publish a book at that time and still it is existing.

Now tell me from where did you get inspiration for this gothic fiction FRANKENSTEIN?

Mary : It was a rainy, gloomy day on Lake of Geneva and bunch of Romantic poets talking and Lord Byron suggested to write something about Gothic or horror story. So I awoke and began to write the world's first modern horror novel. I Also take inspiration from collection of German horror stories translated under the title "Fantasmagoriana."

Jane : ohh nice… but I have less interest in Gothic fiction or horror elements. It seems to me unrealistic and not true to life. If you know that I have written a satirical novel on gothic fiction titled as 'Northanger Abbey' which is considered as the funniest satirical novel on mysterious thing.

Mary : Not a big deal… Everyone has their own perception and point of view.

Jane : Well... forget it and throw more light on your novel what is the main idea of the novel….

Mary : The core idea of my novel is to regenerate the life through science and electricity. Superficially a Gothic Novel, it is influenced by the experiments of Galvanization concerned with the destructive nature of Power.

Jane : Sure Mary, the central theme of my novel Pride and Prejudice is based on love, marriage and money. And also the pride, because in the novel pride is actually the reason behind the heroine Elizabeth's prejudice.

It also can be grouped in comedy of manners. Because it also makes satire on social status and the expectations of women during the 18th century.

Why did you choose to write on horror or recreation of life.

Mary : Ofcourse, Jane why not! Very Sad Experience Uhh...My First child Willy, who died after his birth and I end into the well of depression, so my thoughts extend to restoring the life.

And additionally as you know that this is an era of Scientific Exploration and Biological Experimentation. So I made up my mind to do some experiment with writing and bring out some unique piece which regenerating corpses with electricity. So my work reflects my own sense of Isolation which can be deeply connected with Victor Frankenstein who became lonely after the death of his mother.

Okk, so tell me what inspired you to write Pride and Prejudice.

Jane : Most of my novels, plays and sketches depicted confident and clever young woman. I mostly influenced by Samuel Richardson and Frances Burney. And I also choose title Pride and Prejudice from Burney's novel Cecilia.

So, what kind of background you choose for your upcoming  novel Frankenstein?

Mary : There is a very interesting story, we (She and her husband P.B.Shelley) are wandering through France, Germany, Switzerland and Holland. I found there trees are incredibly large, big white wilderness, Vast expanse of snow. The landscape with its frightening, lonely and bleak aspect, clearly haunted. So I choose for beginning and end of the novel Snowy bleak landscape which also helps to create horror and fear.

Can you please throw some more glimpse on your work?

Jane :  Absolutely, plots often explore the dependence of women on marriage in the pursuit of favourable social standing and economic security. My novel Sense and Sensibility is about sisterly love between  Elizabeth and Jane and Mansfield Park is a psychologically complex novel.

Mary : Okay, Now I have to leave...But, Very interesting meeting with you.

Jane : Okay! Nice to meet you and Hope to see you soon!

Thank You......
