What is a Resignation Letter?


A resignation letter is an official or Formal document that notifies your boss or senior member that you are leaving your job. It is a method which formalises your departure from your current job position and can be submitted through email or as a printed hard copy letter if company demands.


The Resignation Letter serves as an written notice of your quitting your job and includes details of your departure from employment, including information about the end date of your employment.


Tips for Writing Resignation Letter


  • It is polite to send your Resignation Letter prior to Two Weeks or Month ago, Informing on short notice can create further complications
  • Be straightforward in writing, no need to sugarcoat or get creative
  • Always Thank your Office and Office Members for their support and this opportunity
  • Mention things you have learned and enjoyed on this job
  • Always end positively
  • Ensure Smooth Wrap up of your duties (Don't promise anything big)
  • Length of the Letter: Most resignation letters are no more than one typed page.
  • Font and Size: Use a traditional font such as Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri. Your font size should be between 10 and 12 points.
  • Format: A resignation letter should be single-spaced with a space between each paragraph. Use one-inch margins and align your text to the left (the alignment for most business documents).
